Extra supports that sit between the horizontal pieces so the planks do not bend and the platform feels firm.

An intermediate transom spans between the ledgers of a cuplock bay to give additional support to the boards or steel planks that form the working platform. Adding transoms reduces the unsupported span of the deck, which increases the load the platform can safely carry and reduces deflection underfoot.
